Associate Professor

Alex Furman is the director of GWRI and Associate Professor at Civil and Environmental Engineering Faculty, Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. His research focus on hydrology, with emphasis on water flow and reactive transport in the vadose zone (both agricultural and non-agricultural environments), using theoretical, computational and experimental methods.

At the moment, Alex and his team are studying soil aquifer treatment (SAT) and hydrogeophysics. Recent studies include the investigation and optimization of SAT through mechanistic understanding of the related biogeochemical processes, reactive transport in dynamic (and oscillating) systems, and the use of spectral induced polarization to detect and monitor soil contamination at various scales.

Alex obtained his BSc. and MSc. (both in Agricultural Engineering) from the Technion, and a PhD in Hydrology and Water Resources from the University of Arizona. Prior to joining the Technion at 2007, he served as a researcher at ARO (Volcani Center).
